(Introduction to 1900s Working Class)
During the Industrial Revolution, men and women both had time that they didn't have before now to be spent on leisure. Men I think had the best of the time because it was still very sexiest back then. They had the right to spend whatever money they had, for example buying rounds of beers, before using it on the family. Women couldn't walk past saloons for the risk of being labeled a prostitute could occur, causing great shame and embaressment. Also I learned women mostly worked in department type activities, such as garment construction, and service type works. I think that what happened in the 1900s came to make what future males and women were like. Back then, women invented fashion, experiemented, and designed style, which is what women now a days do. Males back then enjoyed competition, sports, and discussing politics and economics, which clearly represent the generation of men today. Working women and married women unfortunlently had different activities too. Working women went to movies and more but married women had to take care of their kids, clean the house, sometimes go to family outings.
After weeks of learning about the Industrial Revolution, my view of it has expanded off just factories and productions, but to the innovations which motivated it and the impacts it caused. For example, Adam Smith a new term I used is said to be the founder of Industrial Revolution. He was an important man whom spread the ideas of Capitalism, that this "invisible hand" will make in the end everyone happy, preaching business owners profit which will pay workers more making them happy. Because of Industrialization, people had more time for themselves, 17 hour work days went to less than 10. With all this free time, an idea of leisure sprouted where men and women would relax and have fun, usually watching movies, going to saloons, gossiping, and sports. With innovations came disasters though, owners did not care about their workers so much yet. Factory fires were common, always killing many workers. In the end, the Industrial Revolution led the way for America to be a superpower in the world.
